Fun Activities – Winter
In winter the Haliburton Highlands become a playground for snow based activities. Cross country skiing, skating, and ice fishing are available directly at the Resort while dog sledding, downhill skiing, snowmobiling and snowshoeing are nearby.
Cross Country Skiing
Ogopogo has walking access to the Twin Lakes Ski Trails, part of the Haliburton Nordic Trail & Ski Club Association. This is a 10 km system of easy to moderate groomed classic skiing. We are also within 20 minutes of many of the other Haliburton Nordic Trails including the Leslie Frost Centre and Glebe Park. Ogopogo has ski equipment in limited quantity for our guests.
Skate on beautiful Mountain Lake. We maintain a large rink on the Lake – great for a family outing or a pickup game of hockey. Try a romantic skate under the stars – we light the rink at night.
Mountain Lake offers great ice fishing featuring Haliburton Gold Lake Trout, Pickerel and Whitefish. We are also known to catch Burbot (Ling) in the evenings. Some of the best locations to fish on the entire lake are located just 300 ft off shore from Ogopogo Resort with easy access back and forth to your cottage from one of our Heated Ice Fishing Huts. Our Ice Fishing Hut Rentals included your bait and the propane for the heated hut. We will also rent our ice fishing huts for day rentals at a rate of $55.00 /person/day.
Nearby Sir Sam’s Ski and Bike offers excellent downhill skiing without lineups. Ogopogo Resort offers “Learn to Ski or Snowboard” package discounts.
Winterdance is an Ontario dogsledding tour company that operates out of the Haliburton Highlands, Canada, alongside Algonquin park, and is owned and operated by husband and wife team Hank DeBruin and Tanya McCready-DeBruin, with help from their 4 dogsledding children, Logan, Dustyn, Michaela and Jessica.
